Networking Setup

How to implement DealerClick in a networking environment.

  1. Install DealerClick from CD on all machines. Make sure to set the user rights to the DlrClick folder under Program Files to read/write/execute for all users.
  2. Select one machine as 'Server'.
  3. On the server, create a folder called 'Shared'. Within this folder, create one called 'DCData'.
  4. Copy the c:\program files\dlrclick folder from program files to DCData. This should leave you with the original folder still in Program Files as well as a path of c:\shared\DCData\dlrclick.
  5. Share the 'Shared' folder on the Server so other users will have access to it. Note: You can place all data you want to give access to in this folder. Make sure you allow full read/write/execute access for all users. You will also need to set the same permissions on the DlrClick folder as well.
  6. Start DealerClick on the server. Go to Setup -> Multiuser -> Data Location. Set the location as c:\shared\DCData\dlrclick. Close DealerClick.
  7. On the workstations, go to My Network Places and drill down until you can see all of the computers. Double-click the server and it should show you the 'Shared' Folder. Right click on this folder and select 'Map Network Drive' or go to Tools -> Map Network Drive. Select a letter, Browse to select the correct folder, make sure 'Reconnect at Logon' is checked, and complete the mapping. Try to use the same letter on all workstations.
  8. Verify the mapping by going to 'My Computer' and verify you can see the mapped drive in the network places section.
  9. Do step 6 above on the workstations, selecting the mapped drive, then specify the DCData folder and the dlrclick folder, so that the path looks like 'X:\DCData\dlrclick'. Close and restart DealerClick to verify you are seeing the data on the server.
  10. In case you cannot access the multiuser functions in DealerClick, you may manually modify the dlrclick.ini file in the windows folder. It opens in notepad. Modify the 'path=' line under [DataPath] to point to the mapped drive on the server: 'X:\DCData\dlrclick'.

You should be all set after completing the above.
