In-House Leasing to Credit-Challenged Buyers

What Lease Here Pay Here Software Actually Runs

In-House Leasing, Not a Sale: How LHPH Differs From BHPH

Lease-here-pay-here keeps the dealership's name on the title for the life of the contract; buy-here-pay-here sells the vehicle and finances the balance, with title passing to the customer once the loan is paid off. DealerClick handles both models, and it keeps them separate throughout — payment structures, end-of-term procedures and the legal disclosures each contract type requires stay distinct instead of forcing an LHPH lease through a BHPH sale workflow.

Because the dealership keeps the title, DealerClick's lease-to-own conversion path matters more here than on a straight sale. The system tracks lease payments against the buyout schedule, calculates the current payoff at any point in the term, generates the sales contract, and transfers title when a customer is ready to convert from leasing to owning — so a mid-term buyout is a documented workflow, not a manual rewrite of the deal.

Weekly Payment Schedules, Vehicle Returns and Re-Leasing

LHPH customers pay weekly or bi-weekly far more often than they pay monthly, and DealerClick's payment engine is built around that cadence: weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly and monthly schedules, automatic recurring collection, early payoffs and payment extensions all run through the same lease record, with remaining lease obligations recalculating automatically as payments post.

A lease that does not convert to ownership comes back to the lot, and DealerClick treats a return as a re-leasable event rather than a write-off. The system walks the return through inspection, excess wear-and-tear and mileage-overage assessment, then returns the vehicle to available inventory so it can be re-leased to the next customer with the same contract discipline as the first lease.

GPS Tracking, Forced-Place Insurance and Customer Communication

A dealership that still holds title on a leased vehicle has more to protect than a lender collecting on a note, and DealerClick's GPS and starter-interrupt integrations reflect that: locations sync to the customer record to protect the asset, verify addresses, and support recovery when a lease goes delinquent, without requiring a separate tracking system outside the DMS.

Insurance tracking works the same way — the system monitors coverage status per lease and can apply forced-place coverage when a customer's policy lapses, so a gap in insurance is caught before it becomes an uninsured loss. Weekly-cadence customers also expect weekly-cadence communication, and the system automates payment reminders and exception alerts on that schedule instead of a monthly billing cycle built for a different kind of contract.

Multi-Cycle Profitability, Collections Cadence and Compliance

A vehicle that gets leased, returned and re-leased several times over its life needs accounting that tracks profitability across every cycle, not just the first one. DealerClick's revenue recognition follows each vehicle through multiple lease cycles, and multi-tier lease programs let a dealership price a second or third lease on the same unit differently from the first, reflecting the vehicle's actual remaining value.

Collections on a weekly-payment portfolio move faster than on a monthly one, and DealerClick's delinquency cadence is built to match — exception alerts fire on the same weekly rhythm the payments run on, rather than waiting for a 30-day-late threshold designed for a monthly note. Regulatory compliance tooling stays current alongside it, and a customer who outgrows LHPH terms can transition into traditional financing without leaving the DMS to do it.

Lease Templates, Early Buyout and Self-Service

Lease templates carry the LHPH-specific terms a generic contract would not: payment schedule, buyout amount and timing, early-termination provisions, and GPS or starter-interrupt disclosures where they apply — so a new lease starts from a state-compliant template instead of a blank document, with template variations available for different vehicle tiers or customer risk profiles.

Early buyout is deliberately separate from full-term conversion. DealerClick calculates a buyout quote from the payments already made, any configured early-buyout discount and outstanding fees, and updates the vehicle's status through the sale once the customer decides. A customer who is not ready to buy or return can request an extension instead, and the system documents the new term and adjusted payment schedule as its own record rather than quietly rewriting the original lease. A self-service portal gives customers the same visibility — balance, payment history, buyout amount and lease-end date — without a call to the office.

In-House Leasing Isn't the Only Option Here

LHPH is built for a buyer who needs the dealership to hold the title through the payment term. Two other DealerClick products cover buyers who fit a different finance model.

Go Deeper on Running an LHPH Portfolio

These cover the day-to-day decisions an LHPH operation runs into once the DMS is set up — underwriting, inventory, collections and the numbers that predict whether a portfolio is actually profitable.
